CONCORD — Police officers say they will begin issuing citations for those making illegal left-hand turns at the intersection of Poplar Tent Road/McGill Avenue/U.S. Highway 29 in Concord.

Until Tuesday, officers issued warnings for violators.

The new design of U.S. Highway 29/Poplar Tent Road/McGill Avenue has been in effect for more than 30 days. Police say that intersection is now a no-left-turn design.

Police say they are still experiencing a high volume of drivers making illegal left turns, which substantially increases the likelihood of a car crash.

Police released a diagram of the access modification.
