Firefighters in Iredell County said Tuesday that two cars struck the same deer in a bizarre crash that sent one woman to the hospital.

One car was driving south on Crawford Road, north of Interstate 40 in Statesville, when it struck a deer, throwing the animal into the air, said Trooper Kyle Bass of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The deer then crashed through the windshield of a second car being driven north by Tamathea Bustle of Statesville.

Bustle was taken by Iredell EMS to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Her daughter, Monique, who was also in the car, went to the hospital with her mother, Bass said.

The driver who first struct the deer, Allison Potts, also of Statesville, was uninjured, Bass said.
