KANNAPOLIS Dr. Chalmers "Chris" Bankhead III, 54, of Kannapolis, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 16, 2019. One of his many talents included being a gifted professional musician who made any saxophone "sing." It was as if God stepped out of heaven and placed his hands on Chris' fingers every single time that he played. Chris Bankhead had a musical gift that was something out of this world. Chris served in the Navy and was a proud veteran. He graduated from AL Brown High School and loved being a member of the AL Brown Jazz Band, Big Green Machine and played football for the mighty Wonders Championship Team. Chris is survived by his parents, Dr. Chalmers and Patricia Miller Bankhead Jr.; sister, Estella P. Bankhead; nephew, Chalmers C. Bankhead IV; faithful companion, Chayru Bankhead; aunts, Sheila Diane Chavis-Shepherd, Marie Bankhead; uncle, Milton M. Miller (Louvenia) of Kannapolis; and a host of loving cousins, relatives, and friends. Services will be held at Living Water Church in Kannapolis, Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Lamb Funeral Home of Concord is serving the family.
