Ferguson, Ella Pauline "Polly" Carpenter

MIDLAND Ella Pauline "Polly" Carpenter Ferguson, 87, of Midland, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at her home. Polly was born March 2, 1929, in Cabarrus County to the late William Caldwell Hill Sr., and Annie Mae Canupp Hill. In additional to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband of 44 years, Wilbert Lee "Bill" Carpenter; and her second husband of 20 years, John Ed Ferguson; two sons, Gary Lee Carpenter and Michael Eric Carpenter; five sisters and two brothers. Polly worked in the textile industry most of her life and most recently worked with Cabarrus County Schools until her retirement. She was a current member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Midland and was also a past member of Roberta Baptist Church in Concord. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was always respected everyone. She was an amazing mother who raised six of her own children while at the same time, helping to raise several of her own brothers and later, a number of her first husband's siblings. Her second marriage brought her a whole new family but she always had plenty of love to share and she loved them all very dearly. She was the eternal optimist and always found something good in everyone she met. If someone was having a bad day, her smile and uplifting words would always cheer them up. She had a green thumb and always had a beautiful yard and garden at her home. She loved spending time on Sunday afternoons with her family. She also loved birdwatching from her porch and doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles - always surrounded by her family. The annual fall beach trips and Christmas shopping trips with "the girls" will forever remain some of our family's most precious memories. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord and funeral services will immediately follow at 1 p.m., at Hartsell's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Roberta Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Allmon (Tommy), Kathy Lambert (Roger) and Rita Wilkinson (Charles); and son, Danny Carpenter (Vickie); sisters, Edith Smith, Janice Macleod (Robert) and Patsy Sellars (Gary); brothers, Alvin Hill, George Hill (Ann), W.C. Hill Jr. (Lora), Roy Hill (Sue); stepchildren, Brenda Morrison (Randy), Sherry Flagherty (Keith), Sheila Morison (Mike), Marcia Vaughn (Robert), Sue Washburn, Robin Phillips and Johnny Ferguson (Maria); grandchildren, Gretchen Haynes, Kim Baucom (Daniel), Michele Allmon, Tommy Allmon, Candy Griffin (Wayne), Tara Hudson (Todd), Jeremy Wilkinson (Via), Amber Wilkinson (Matt Foster), Aaron Carpenter(Rebeka), Jenna Hinesley (Chris), Taylor Carpenter, Scott Morrison (Mary), Julie Shively (Jay), Matthew Morrison (Brandy), Jack Whitley, Andrea Burris, Ginger Whitley, Candace Reece (Max), Beth Ferguson, Daniel Harvell (Amber), Tina Starnes (Mitch), Tammy Page (Chris), Chris Morrison (Stacey), Aaron Krimminger (Jenna), Amanda Staton (Jeremy), Johnny Ferguson Jr., Jeremy Ponce and Joshua Ferguson; and a large number of great- and great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Joshua Hall and Dr. Timothy Paul and all the staff at Mount Pleasant Family Physicians, Gentiva Home Care, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and Bi-Lo Pharmacy on Hwy 601 in Concord for the loving care and concern that was always shown to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Ferguson family.
