The N.C. High School Athletic Association board of directors voted Wednesday to officially sanction girls’ flag football and boys’ volleyball, expanding athletic opportunities for student-athletes across the state beginning in the 2026-27 school year.

      The highly anticipated girls’ soccer rematch between Northwest Cabarrus and Robinson got off to a really weird start. Hours before the Trojans and Bulldogs were to take the field at Northwest, a boil water order was issued for Kannapolis and the area around the school. So, instead of it being a home game for the Trojans, the two teams played a neutral site game, at Concord.

                The Central Cabarrus Vikings made the championship game in the F&M Bank Cannon Ballers Invitational High School Baseball tournament, thanks in large part to their offense. They averaged 10 runs a game through their first two games in the tournament. South Rowan, their opponent in the final, was even better, averaging over 13 runs a game. So, naturally, the championship game was a pitcher’s duel.
