Cabarrus Board of Elections combines two precincts, set early voting dates, sites
Precinct 02-10 combines the former precinct at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church and Weddington Hills Elementary. Voters will cast their ballots on Election Day at the school off Weddington Road.
Cabarrus County voters will have one fewer Election Day precinct for the 2026 general election after the Cabarrus County Board of Elections approved consolidating two precincts into one beginning with the Nov. 3 election.
The board adopted a resolution reducing the number of Election Day precincts from 39 to 38, citing the growing popularity of early voting, underused Election Day precincts and the need to use county resources more efficiently while maintaining safe, secure and accessible polling places. The resolution states the change is intended to maximize voter participation and satisfaction.
Under the resolution, former Precinct 02-05 (Weddington Hills Elementary School) and Precinct 02-07 (Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church) will be combined into new Precinct 02-10. Voters assigned to the consolidated precinct will cast ballots at Weddington Hills Elementary School, 4401 Weddington Road in Concord, beginning with the 2026 general election. The county said affected voters will receive updated voter registration cards at least 30 days before the election.
Early voting sites
The county also has announced four early voting locations for the Nov.3, 2026, general election:
- Cabarrus EMS HQ Station 9, 793 Cabarrus Ave. W., Concord
- Cabarrus Afton Ridge Active Living Center/Library, 6905 Glen Afton Blvd., Kannapolis
- Cabarrus Arena & Event Center, 4751 N.C. Highway 49, Concord
- Rowan-Cabarrus Community College at NCRC, 399 Biotechnology Lane, Kannapolis
Early voting schedule
Early voting will begin Oct. 15 and continue through Oct. 31. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. weekdays, with Saturday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 17 and Oct. 24, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 31.
There will be no early voting on Sundays, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, and no voting anywhere in the county on Monday, Nov. 2.
On Election Day, voters must cast ballots at their assigned precincts rather than the Board of Elections office.
According to the county's updated precinct list, the consolidated polling place is listed as Precinct 02-10 at Weddington Hills Elementary School, which now includes voters formerly assigned to Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church.
