Get ready, Concord. Comedy is coming to the Davis Theatre at the Cabarrus Arts Council! In partnership with Comedy Zone Charlotte, the Cabarrus Arts Council is bringing four comedy acts to the stage this season, beginning with Tommy Davidson, one of comedy's most recognizable voices, for a night of nonstop laughs.
Many fans first discovered Davidson as a breakout star on the groundbreaking sketch comedy series "In Living Color," where he shared the stage with comedy legends including Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Damon Wayans, and David Alan Grier. His witty characters, spot-on celebrity impressions, and energetic performances quickly made him a household name.
Tommy Davidson has built an outstanding career in stand-up comedy.
Since then, Davidson has built a career that spans stand-up comedy, television, film, voice acting, and hosting. From starring alongside Halle Berry in "Strictly Business" to memorable roles in "Bamboozled," "Juwanna Mann," and "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," he has remained a familiar face on screens for more than three decades. Audiences have also heard his voice in beloved animated series including "The Proud Family" and "Black Dynamite."
On the stand-up stage, his storytelling, quick wit, and legendary impressions of icons like Sammy Davis Jr. and Michael Jackson have made him one of the country's most sought-after stand-up comedians. Learn the Age-Old Art of Pastels — Pastel classes are offered by Regina Burchett on an individual or small-group basis. Classes are typically two hours in length, and the materials are included for the first two classes, to ensure that the student will get to experience working with pastels before they commit to an investment in materials. Individual classes are $30 per two-hour session. Note: Regina moved from her ClearWater Studio to a home studio in July 2017, so individual lessons may be given there. To explain, Plein Air is a French term meaning “denoting or in the manner of a 19th-century style of painting outdoors, or with a strong sense of the open air, that became a central feature of French impressionism.” Some famous Plein Air painters were among the most impressive painters from history, including Monet, Homer and Sargent. Within the Cabarrus Art Guild, a group of Plein air painters have banded together to enjoy the lovely North Carolina Piedmont and surrounding sites via Plein air.
