Svengoolie Presents 'The Wizard of Oz'
MeTV, 7 p.m. â– Catch a Classic
For the first time in nearly 30 years, you can see every yellow brick and ruby slipper — and all the other colors over the rainbow — as The Wizard of Oz returns unedited to free broadcast television on MeTV. Based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, MGM's groundbreaking 1939 film stars Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas who, alongside her dog Toto, is swept up by a tornado and whisked off to the magical land of Oz. She's joined on a musical adventure down the yellow brick road by a Scarecrow who wants a brain (Ray Bolger), a Tin Man in need of a heart (Jack Haley) and a Cowardly Lion searching for courage (Bert Lahr). To find her way home, Dorothy must seek the aid of the mysterious Wizard (Frank Morgan) and defeat the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton). Tonight, horror icon Svengoolie (Rich Koz) and his "Sven Squad" introduce the film, and you can expect plenty of corny jokes, sketches and musical parodies about the land of Oz.
