CONCORD — Though small in number, members of the Fidelis Kappa chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa are making a sizable impact across Cabarrus County through ongoing service projects and support for local schools and families.
The chapter, made up of 10 retired educators, is part of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization for women educators that promotes educational excellence, altruism and world understanding. Cabarrus County is home to three ADK chapters.
In recent months, Fidelis Kappa members have contributed in a variety of ways. During the fall of 2025, the group donated 35 winter coats and jackets to the Junior Charity League's clothing closet. Around the holidays, members provided $1,280 in gift cards to Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network (CVAN), supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence during Christmas and Valentine's Day.
The chapter also maintains a strong connection to local schools. Members regularly donate books to elementary school libraries and contribute funds toward college scholarships awarded by another local ADK chapter to high school seniors. In addition, they assemble snack-filled "goodie boxes" twice a year for school staff across the county — a project that has resulted in more than 20 large boxes delivered since 2016.
Beyond donations, Fidelis Kappa members stay actively involved in education by volunteering in schools and tutoring through the Cabarrus County Public Library's literacy programs.
The group also emphasizes fellowship and continued learning. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers and presentations from organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Cabarrus Health Alliance, Wings of Eagles Ranch and Coltrane Life Center, along with programs focused on wellness topics like yoga and heart health.
Members say they take pride in continuing their commitment to education and community service even in retirement.
Retired educators interested in learning more about Fidelis Kappa can contact the chapter's membership chairperson at 704-786-9534.
