CABARRUS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Six Cabarrus County detention officers are taking the next step in their law enforcement careers as they prepare to transition into deputy roles this summer, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office.
In a recent announcement, the sheriff's office recognized the six officers, who have been selected to enter the next Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) class in July 2026.Completion of BLET is required to become a sworn deputy in North Carolina.
The officers making the transition are Dustin Bowers, James Buss, Johnny Gordon, Dylan Fortson, Chandler Bingham and Jaidin Williamson.
Sheriff's officials praised the group for their commitment and service within the county's detention division, noting that their advancement reflects both their dedication and the agency's investment in developing its personnel.
"We are proud to support these detention officers as they take this next step in their careers," the agency said in its statement. "Their dedication and commitment to serving our agency and the citizens of Cabarrus County are evident."
The sheriff's office emphasized that the move from detention officer to deputy is a significant career milestone, requiring additional training and expanded responsibilities in patrol and other law enforcement functions.
Officials said they look forward to the officers' continued growth as they begin their new roles and continue serving the community.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office also used the announcement to encourage others interested in a law enforcement career to apply, directing potential candidates to its recruitment website for more information: www.cabarruslaw.us.
