ECHS takes part in Taps Across America
MOUNT PLEASANT — The Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society will once again join communities across the nation in observing Memorial Day through participation in Taps Across America on Monday, May 25.
The national observance honors members of the military who died in service to the United States. Participants are encouraged to pause for a moment of silence at 3 p.m., followed by the playing of taps.
The public is invited to gather on the lawn of the ECHS Museum, 1145 N. College St. in Mount Pleasant, ahead of the ceremony. After taps is performed, attendees will have an opportunity to ring the museum bell in memory of loved ones who died while serving their country.
Taps Across America began in 2015 and grew in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic as a socially distanced way to commemorate Memorial Day. Musicians across the country were encouraged to step outside and perform taps following the national moment of remembrance.
Thousands of buglers and musicians are expected to participate nationwide this year. The Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society first joined the annual observance in 2021.
