CITY OF CONCORD
Concord has been providing electric service for 120 years.
CITY OF CONCORD
The city of Concord Electric Systems launched a customer satisfaction survey to gain customer feedback and insights on the utility's services and communications. The results will help inform future planning as Concord Electric Systems continues its mission to provide consistent, reliable power and exceptional service to customers.
"As a public power community, our customers are our priority. This survey will help us understand what matters most to them so we can ensure our services and programs are meeting their needs and expectations," said Alex Burris, Electric Systems director.
The anonymous survey is open to Concord Electric Systems customers only. The deadline to complete the survey is April 14.
Concord Electric Systems customers can take the survey by scanning the QR code found on their March utility bill insert, or by visiting https://concordnc.gov/ElectricSurvey. By completing the survey, participants will have a chance to win a $100 Amazon eGift Card.
The survey is being conducted in partnership with ElectriCities of North Carolina and is administered by The Harris Poll, an independent market research firm.
As required by the Code of Ethics of the National Council on Public Polls and the United States Privacy Act of 1974, The Harris Poll maintains the anonymity of survey respondents. No information will be released that might, in any way, reveal the identity of the respondent to the city of Concord.
Concord Electric Systems has been powering homes and businesses for more than 120 years. They serve over 34,000 customers and are nationally recognized for their safety and reliability. Concord Electric Systems was one of just 52 electric utilities nationwide to earn the prestigious Reliable Public Power (RP3) designation from the American Public Power Association in 2025. Out of more than 2,000 public power utilities across the nation, just 251 have earned the RP3 designation.

CABARRUS COUNTY
Get ready, Concord! The Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County is excited to welcome the community back for the 69th Annual Pancake Day, presented by SHOE SHOW, INC. Join us on Thursday, March 19, from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a day full of pancakes, sausage, and fun with friends and neighbors.
"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it's such a special tradition for our community," said Valerie Melton, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County. "We love seeing so many familiar faces (and new ones, too!) come together to support the kids we serve. We're hoping this might be our biggest Pancake Day yet — and that means even more support for our Afterschool and Summer programs."
The history
Started back in 1957 by the Kiwanis Club, Pancake Day has become one of Concord's favorite traditions — so much so that it's often called "Concord's Favorite Day!" For nearly 70 years, our incredible Board members, staff and volunteers have flipped thousands of pancakes and cooked up countless sausage patties to serve our amazing community. Of course, no Pancake Day is complete without a drink in hand — coffee, milk, Cheerwine and Sun Drop are all part of the experience.
Thanks to the generous support of SHOE SHOW, INC. and so many other sponsors, this year's Pancake Day is on track to raise more than $100,000 for the club. These funds help us keep our programs affordable and accessible for local kids and families — making a lasting difference in their lives and futures.
Tickets now on sale
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at www.bgclubcab.org, at the club (Monday–Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or at the door on Pancake Day. Kids 4 and under eat free. Each ticket is good for one serving — no takeout orders.
Questions? Call 704-7212582, ext. 125.
For 80 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County has been committed to helping local youth reach their full potential. We serve more than 2,000 K-12 students each year, providing a safe, supportive place where they can learn, grow and build a great future.
The 50/50 raffle
Part of the day's fundraising is the sale is a 50/50 raffle. The tickets are $2 and can be purchased online at https://bit.ly/ PancakeDayRaffle. Ticket sales for the 50/50 raffle began in February and will continue on Pancake Day.

Salisbury VA earns high level geriatic care designation
From staff reports
Updated
The Salisbury VA Health Care System announced that the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center's Emergency Department has earned the Bronze Standard, Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians.
The accreditation, developed with support from the Gary and Mary West Health Institute and the John A. Hartford Foundation, recognizes emergency departments that provide high-quality care tailored to older adults. It reflects Salisbury VA’s commitment to delivering age-appropriate, comprehensive emergency services for all veterans.
The achievement is the result of coordinated efforts led by Dr. Stephanie Rose; Dallas Sinclair, RN; and an interdisciplinary team across the health care system. The Level 3 designation signals to veterans, families, and the community that Salisbury VA is meeting national best practices for geriatric emergency care.
“We are honored to receive this recognition and proud of our emergency care team for their dedication to advancing high-quality care for our aging veteran population,” said Acting Executive Director Charles “Dave” Collins, Salisbury VA Health Care System. “This accreditation demonstrates our continued commitment to improving the emergency care experience for every veteran we serve in Salisbury and at our Urgent Care Clinics in Charlotte and Kernersville.”
The GEDA program was developed following national guidelines released in 2014 to improve emergency care for older adults. These guidelines recommend improvements such as geriatric-friendly equipment, specialized staff training, and routine screening for conditions including delirium, dementia and fall risk.
The voluntary accreditation program includes three levels, similar to trauma center designations. Level 3 emergency departments must incorporate numerous best practices, provide interdisciplinary geriatric education, and maintain appropriate equipment and supplies designed for older adults.
In the coming weeks, the GEDA Board of Governors will provide feedback to help Salisbury VA continue to enhance its geriatric emergency care. This guidance will also support the facility’s preparation for reaccreditation in three years.
