CATCH A CLASSIC
Svengoolie Double Feature
MeTV, 8 p.m.
All Hallow's Eve is nearly here, which can mean only one thing: It's Svengoolie's time to shine! As part of the network's annual monthlong "Halloween BOO-Nanza" event, Svengoolie and his "Sven Squad" — Gwengoolie (Sarah Palmer), Ignatius Malvolio Prankenstein, aka IMP (Scott Gryder) and Nostalgiaferatoo (Bill Leff) — have been serving up commentary on classic horror films with double features every weekend. Tonight, Svengoolie delivers two stories that may be high in camp but are spooky enough to stand the test of time. First up is 1943's Frankenstein Meets Wolf Man (pictured), a follow-up to 1942's The Ghost of Frankenstein, and 1941's The Wolf Man. Lon Chaney stars as Larry Talbot, who, four years after his death, is resurrected after robbers break into his grave. He finds he's still doomed to turn into a crazed werewolf after sundown, and seeking a cure, he attempts to find Dr. Frankenstein. Instead, he meets his scientist daughter Elsa (Ilona Massey), who agrees to help with an experiment — but no one is prepared to face Frankenstein's monster, played by the memorable Bela Lugosi. Later, Svengoolie presents 1955's Revenge of the Creature, a sequel to 1954's Creature From the Black Lagoon. John Agar stars as Professor Clete Ferguson, an animal psychologist who brings Gill-man (Tom Hennesy) to his aquarium so he can study the creature with his student, Helen (Lori Nelson). Of course, no one plans on Gill-man escaping, where he not only wreaks havoc but stalks and then abducts Helen. We couldn't think of a more perfect movie pairing to usher in Halloween week!
