Barber-Scotia announces Hamilton as Student Government president

CONCORD — Barber-Scotia College announced Andre Hamilton has been selected as its Student Government Association president for the 2026-27 academic year.
Hamilton, a rising sophomore from Miami majoring in business, will serve as the chief representative of the student body, advocating for student interests and working with college administrators, faculty and staff. He will also serve as the student representative on the Barber Scotia College board of trustees, providing student input on institutional governance and strategic planning.
College officials said Hamilton was chosen for his leadership, entrepreneurial experience and commitment to serving others.
Hamilton is the founder of VBDMedia704, a media company, and has expressed a passion for mentoring young people. College leaders said those experiences reflect the qualities they hope to develop in Barber-Scotia students.
"Andre represents the next generation of Barber-Scotia leaders," College President Chris V. Rey said in a statement. "He embodies the entrepreneurial spirit, servant leadership, and commitment to excellence that we seek to cultivate in every Barber-Scotia student. I am confident he will be a strong advocate for his fellow students while helping move our institution forward during this exciting chapter in our history."
As SGA president, Hamilton said he plans to focus on listening to students and advocating for initiatives that enhance campus life.
"It is an incredible honor to serve as Student Government Association president," Hamilton said. "I am committed to listening to my fellow students, advocating for their needs, and helping create opportunities that strengthen the Barber-Scotia experience. Together, we will continue building a campus culture that reflects our pride, our purpose, and our shared vision for the future."
Barber-Scotia College, a historically Black college in Concord, said Hamilton will begin serving as SGA president during the 2026-27 academic year.
