Promoting faith and unity
Kulture Original store in Texas brings cultures together
ABILENE, Texas — Walking in the Mall of Abilene, it's hard not to notice the bright colors and patterns of the Kulture Original store.
Opened in July 2025 by Mekenzie Davis, it is the home of his own unique brand, Kulture Original, which he started back in 2017 while serving in the Air Force.
"I wanted to create a clothing brand that was bringing diff erent cultures together into one," said Davis. "I was getting exposed to a lot of diff erent cultures from Ireland to Kuwait to Germany. I was going through all these diff erent countries."
Davis said he incorporates diff erent patterns, designs and materials from across the globe into his designs, taking inspiration from diff erent cultures to produce original clothing items with the purpose of promoting unity.
"My main agenda for the company is pushing for unity, fighting against division," said Davis. "Come judgment day, God's going to judge us by our heart not based on how we look, not our identity, and so that's the heart of the brand."
All clothing items released by the brand are built with a story and purpose, said Davis. He focuses on designing pieces that not only promote unity but are also inclusive with items ranging from fire and water-resistant jackets to satin-lined beanies.
"You're going to see a jacket that's like fire-resistant on the outside and water-resistant on the inside," said Davis. "And people say, 'What is the purpose of that?' Well, you might have people who are in welding, and they might want to be still stylish but still want to make sure their stuff is protected."
One of Davis's favorite pieces that Kulture Original has released is the KO Seven Continent Jersey. The colorfully designed jersey features the seven continents and seven different languages.
"We created it because it represents the number of completion, which our brand represents unity, and when I think of unity, it means like we're all unified together," said Davis. "And then also on the seventh day, that's when God created us, completed all his works." He added, "I think that's probably the piece that I have invested the most time and detail into."
Many of Kulture Originals' designs are also faith-based, incorporating Bible verses and prayers into clothing designs.
"We have our prayer collection of shirts where it has my personal prayers on the back of them," said Davis. "I really want to make sure that everything I am doing glorifies the Lord."
For Davis, his faith is his why behind Kulture Original, and he even keeps a prayer request box at the front of the store.
"As soon as a person writes on that card, God acknowledges that prayer in that moment," said Davis. "Yes, I take an additional step, and I pray additionally over it. But you already did that heavy lifting. We're just giving a space for you to think about the Lord."
Davis' commitment to his purpose of promoting unity doesn't stop with Kulture Original. He also hosts an annual event called Kulture Con in Abilene, which fosters unity and networking for a wide range of vendors and community members.
"Kulture Con is our way of giving back to the community," said Davis. "It's our way of bringing businesses together to grow the community and push the community forward.Networking, live entertainment, and we give away free backpacks for the kids. We helped pay somebody's rent last year, and we gave away two free TVs."
This year's Kulture Con will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Abilene Convention Center and is set to feature exciting vendors, a mechanical bull, comedians, giveaways and testimonials.
"I want to give people an opportunity to share testimonies of how God has really saved them and saved their life and how they got closer to Christ," said Davis.
