Kannapolis police collecting school supplies

or brought to the National Night Out event.

The Kannapolis Police Department is asking the community to help local students start the school year prepared by donating school supplies for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
The department is collecting new, unused school supplies through Aug. 5. All donations will benefit students in Kannapolis City Schools.
Needed items include bookbags, notebook paper, binders, pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, scissors, glue, pencil boxes, folders and colored pencils or crayons.
Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of Kannapolis City Hall and the Kannapolis Police Department, 401 Laureate Way. Residents can also bring supplies to the city's National Night Out celebration from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Swanee Theatre, 200 West Ave.
National Night Out
The annual National Night Out event is designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community while promoting neighborhood safety.
In addition to serving as a collection site for the school supply drive, the free event will feature games, bingo, food, nonprofit organizations and other family-friendly activities.
The police department is also seeking nonprofit organizations interested in participating as vendors during National Night Out.Organizations can register online through a Google Forms application available on the city of Kannapolis' social media pages.
