Unravel the mystery of 'Spider's Web'
Catch the comedy Oct. 8-18 at Old Courthouse Theatre
Agatha Christie is a world-renowned suspense writer with 66 detective novels, six romance novels (under the name Mary Westmacott), 150 short stories, and 25 plays to her credit. Old Courthouse Theatre's upcoming production, "Spider's Web," brings us the only comedy in Christie's collection and her second-longest-running play in London next to "The Mousetrap."
"Spider's Web's" plot revolves around Clarissa, wife of a diplomat, who has an active and vivid imagination and is adept at spinning tales of adventure and deceit. When a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds live drama much harder to cope with. As the investigation takes its twists and turns, no one can tell if Clarissa is telling the truth, according to a news release.
With this conscious parody of the detective thriller, Christie delivers a unique blend of suspense and humor. There is tension and laughter in equal parts in an intricate plot of murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways, and secret drawers. Who done it?
Veteran director Stuart Jonap brings his adept vision and leadership to the classic comedy/suspense story, leading a cast of both seasoned performers and novices. OCT veterans include Jonathan M. Ewart, Sarah Ganddini, Maggie Garrido, Brian Rassler, Roger Watson and Aaron Zimmerman. Joining them are newcomers Jake Dailey, Lou Delassandro, Michelle Hooker, Collin Hoskins and Luke Tyrell. Spider's Web is supported by the talented veteran OCT design team of Kim Baysinger (costumes), Roger Watson (set), and Megan Delgado (lights).
The second show of the season also rings in the start of our Annual Fund Campaign. OCT's goal this year is $35,000, with funds this year being appropriated for needed structural, electrical, and facility improvements.
Can you unravel the mystery before the final scene? Agatha Christie's "Spider's Web" runs Oct. 8-18. Tickets are available at www.octconcord.com or 704-788-2405.
