Youth camp focused on safety, service

The Summer youth Camp's community service project involved
collecting food for the Broadus Baptist Food Pantry Ministry.
Bowling was one of the activities for seventh and eighth
graders.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office recently concluded its Youth Summer Camp for rising seventh and eighth-grade students from schools served by the agency's school resource officers.
The weeklong camp, organized by the Sheriff's Office Youth Development Division, combined safety education with recreational activities designed to strengthen relationships between deputies and students outside the classroom.
According to the Sheriff's Office, campers received safety lessons from school resource officers while taking part in daily outings that included bowling, arcade games, miniature golf, roller skating, a trampoline park and a movie day.
Students also completed a community service project by collecting donations for the Broadus Baptist Food Pantry Ministry to help provide food for local residents in need.
The Sheriff's Office said each week of its summer camp program supports a local organization as part of teaching participants the value of community service and giving back.
Officials said the camp provides an opportunity for deputies to continue building positive relationships with students during the summer months and stay connected with them throughout the year.
