MOUNT PLEASANT — As the nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society will mark the occasion with a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on Saturday, June 27, at 4 p.m.
The event will be held at the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Museum, 1145 N. College St. in Mount Pleasant, and is open to the public.
Organizers say the reading will feature local dignitaries and elected officials sharing the words that helped shape the United States. The program is scheduled before the Mount Pleasant parade, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to reflect on the nation's founding before enjoying the community celebration.
“The Declaration of Independence is the document that birthed a nation,” organizers said in announcing the event.
The reading is part of nationwide observances recognizing America’s 250th anniversary, often referred to as the Semiquincentennial, which will be officially celebrated in 2026.
The Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Cabarrus County and neighboring communities. The organization operates without state or federal funding and relies on donations, memberships and grants to support its mission of preserving local history.
