Louisburg College Learning Partners Program helps students with learning differences succeed

The Louisburg College Learning Partners Program is one of the few comprehensive academic support programs for college students with learning differences in North Carolina. Students with learning disorders or learning differences have difficulties in comprehending or processing information, and thus have specific needs required in the classroom.

Learning Partners is a fee-based experience that offers students with learning differences the academic strategies and support needed to become successful, independent learners. Each student is paired with an experienced learning specialist, who meets with the student at least three times weekly.

The learning specialist aims to provide an exciting approach to learning while meeting the unique needs of the student. Student learning labs are open during the day and evening to assist students with class work. In addition, each student has access to the academic resources, services and accommodations they need in order to become a successful college student.

Learning Partners is great for students with:

• Learning differences

• Attention deficits

• Social-emotional difficulties

• Challenges with time and task management

• IEP or 504 Plan during high school

• Other unique learning challenges

Sharon Bryson, a parent of one of the students at Learning Partners, has witnessed firsthand how the program has helped her son. “Learning Partners provided the structure and guidance to assist my son to form study habits that adapted to his learning style, not the other way around. This program was the perfect blend of adaptability and advice my son needed to help him become the successful student he is today,” says Bryson.
