After upgrading the roster on both sides of the ball, the Chicago Bears hope to be in more close games in 2023, the kind in which a key play here or there on special teams can make the difference. The Bears lost by nine or more points seven times during last year’s 3-14 season. In four of the losses by eight or fewer points, a key special teams breakdown was part of the problem. Jeffrey Alan Caglianone is better known as Jac and playfully nicknamed "Jactani" as an ode to two-way MLB sensation Shohei Ohtani. Florida's star pitcher/first baseman has captivated teammates, coaches and fans while putting the second-ranked Gators in position to return to the College World Series for the first time since 2018. He is the program's best two-way player since Brad Wilkerson, one of the county's most intriguing pro prospects for 2024 and could be the face of amateur baseball by the time his record-setting season ends.

The 2022-23 University of Kentucky sports year began last fall with a silly spat between the school’s two most high-profile coaches over whether UK was a “basketball school” or a “football school” before each embarked on disappointing seasons. Then the year ended, or could have ended, with you wondering if maybe, just maybe the University of Kentucky is actually becoming — are you ready for this ...

Of course Indiana State would rather be hosting this weekend's NCAA baseball Super Regionals. They've earned it. Manchester City's run to the Champions League final has hardly come as a surprise. But the same cannot be said for Inter Milan. Inter is one of European soccer's most storied teams but it enters Saturday's game in Istanbul as an outsider after finishing the season as third best team in Italy. Italian soccer has long-since lost its shine after being considered the ultimate destination for the world's best players in the 1990s. Inter finished the season 18 points behind league champion Napoli. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi says City "will be facing an opponent who deserve to be in Istanbul as much as they do."

The No. 1-ranked Swiatek won 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday and has not dropped a set in the tournament. Swiatek will face 14th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia in Thursday's semifinals. Gauff is a 19-year-old American who has lost all seven matches she has played against Swiatek. Haddad Maia is the first Brazilian woman to reach a Grand Slam semifinal since 1968. She eliminated No. 7 Ons Jabeur in three sets earlier Wednesday.
