ROCKWELL — The internationally known African Children's Choir will bring its message of hope and music to Rowan County with two performances at Nazareth Community Church in early May.
The choir is scheduled to perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, and again at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the church, located at 856 Crescent Road.
The African Children's Choir, which has been performing for more than 40 years, is known for its energetic concerts that combine traditional hymns with African cultural music and dance. The performances also include personal stories that highlight faith and perseverance.
Comprised of children ages 8 to 11 from vulnerable backgrounds across Africa, the choir represents what organizers describe as both the challenges and potential of the continent's next generation. Many of the children have faced limited access to education and other hardships, but participation in the choir provides opportunities for schooling and personal development.
"The African Children's Choir proves just how powerful music can be," said Tina Sipp, the choir's manager. "These concerts not only provide hope and encouragement to our audiences, but they offer the children life-changing experiences that help shape them into future leaders."
The concerts are free and open to the public. No tickets are required, though donations will be accepted to support the choir's ongoing work.
The choir is part of Music for Life, an international Christian organization that supports education, discipleship and leadership training for thousands of children across Africa.
Organizers encourage community members to attend and experience what they describe as an uplifting evening of music and inspiration.
