NW Cabarrus grads succeed in, out of school
Northwest Cabarrus High School graduates celebrated the culmination of years of hard work, growth and perseverance during commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2026.
School leaders and student speakers reflected on the lessons learned and challenges overcome as graduates prepared to begin the next chapter of their lives.
Cabarrus County Schools Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki reminded students that their accomplishments extend beyond academics.
"Your diploma recognizes what you achieved. Your life will reveal who you became," Kopicki told graduates.
Student speaker Ella Ortiz acknowledged the uncertainty many graduates face while expressing confidence in the class's ability to meet future challenges.
"We might not have everything figured out yet, but we've proven we're capable of doing so," Ortiz said.
She reflected on a high school journey marked by change, challenges, friendships and memories that helped shape the Class of 2026.
Fellow student speaker Abhiram Vemula encouraged classmates to continue seeking opportunities for growth after graduation.
"Keep choosing rooms that test you. Rooms where you're still learning.
Rooms where you don't have all the answers yet," Vemula said. His message emphasized lifelong learning and embracing new experiences as graduates move forward from their high school years filled with academics, extracurricular activities and Friday night football traditions.
Principal Chad Thomas urged graduates to embrace life's uncertainties while remaining true to their values.
"Life is not about having it all figured out. It's about choices, taking risks, being a good person, creating happiness, and taking care of yourself," Thomas said.
As the ceremony concluded, school officials celebrated a class defined by courage, perseverance and Trojan pride. Armed with lessons learned in the classroom and beyond, members of the Northwest Cabarrus High School Class of 2026 left campus ready to pursue new opportunities and face the future with confidence.

The ceremony highlighted both the accomplishments of the graduating class and the support network that helped students reach the milestone.
Student speaker Jacey Holcomb reflected on the significance of the day and the years of effort that led to it.
"Today isn't just another day; it's the day we've been working towards for years," Holcomb said.
