More inspections after Watkins Glen
NASCAR is performing a deeper inspection process after the Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International last weekend. Connor Zilisch's No. 88 car for Trackhouse Racing and Chris Buescher's No. 17 car for RFK Racing have been taken to the NASCAR R&D Center for further inspection after Watkins Glen, the sport announced.
The Trackhouse Racing driver has struggled to start the season but found top-5 pace at Watkins Glen. Meanwhile, the RFK Racing driver has been good to start the 2026 Cup Series season, but his 12th-place finish at Watkins Glen didn't represent his true pace.
NASCAR taking the cars to the R&D Center doesn't automatically mean something is wrong; however, it does heighten the risk of a potential penalty. In the NextGen car era, drivers and teams have received significant penalties when NASCAR takes a car to the R&D Center. There have been several occasions when they have lost over 100 points due to an infraction. Most cars are cleared after going to the R&D Center, but exceptions exist.

NASCAR Cup driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the 2023 Daytona 500 champion, has signed a multi-year contract extension with Hyak Motorsports.
The extension keeps Stenhouse as the driver of the No. 47 Chevrolet. He joined Hyak Motorsports, then known as JTG Daugherty Racing, in 2020 after spending 11 seasons with RFK Racing.
"Ricky has been a huge part of what we're building at Hyak Motorsports, and we're proud to continue this partnership for years to come," Hyak Motorsports owner Gordon Smith said. "He brings experience, leadership, and a competitive mindset every weekend, and we believe there's still a lot ahead for this team with Ricky in the No. 47."
Stenhouse, 37, has more than 480 starts and four career Cup victories. Along with Daytona in 2023, the Mississippi native won there in the 2017 summer race. He also won at Talladega in 2024 and 2017. Stenhouse has 26 top-5 finishes and 63 top-10s. He is also a two-time NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series champion.
"I'm thrilled to finally get this contract extension done," Stenhouse said. "It's something we've been working on for a while, and I'm really thankful to everyone at Hyak Motorsports, especially Gordon. His vision for this race team and the passion he brings to it every single day is special. A lot of people may not know Gordon that well yet, but he truly cares about motorsports, NASCAR, and this No. 47 team, and that shows in everything he does."
Stenhouse's best finishes in 2026 were second in the Daytona 500 and sixth at Talladega.
