There was a paint station where people could put on a glove before painting their hand with a rainbow of colors.
Carla Garrison-Mattos, an artist in Charlotte, was approached by Lasharee Rogers about a mural commission. After Rogers saw a mural Garrison-Mattos had completed in another area, she contacted Garrison-Mattos over social media.
Carla Garrison-Mattos made several sketches of some of the features that will be in the mural. One of them will be the words “Together we are stronger” spelled out in English and American Sign Language.

Community members were encouraged to come out from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to help create the community mural. Residents put on a glove, painted their hand and placed it in the center of the sunflowers dotting the mural, creating what Garrison-Mattos called the seeds.
