A Marion man has been charged with intimidating people who were enjoying a float down the Catawba River.
Joseph Dale Vetter, 44, of Marion, is charged with two counts of felony possession of a firearm by felon.
On Sunday, Aug. 23, Deputy Chris Dvorak with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the place that used to be Mad Momma's Mud Sling for a report of a subject waving a gun and yelling at people floating down the Catawba River, according to a news release from the McDowell County Sheriff's Office.
Dvorak saw a man, later identified as Vetter, sitting in a chair by the river with two guns and an empty liquor bottle.
Dvorak confirmed that Vetter is a convicted felon and not allowed to own or be in possession of firearms.

Vetter was arrested and taken to the McDowell County Detention Center for processing.
Vetter was issued a secured bond of $50,000, according to the news release.
