KANNAPOLIS Donald "Don" Dale Irvin Jr. 68, of Concord went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Tucker Hospice House, following a period of declining health. Don was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Donald Dale Irvin Sr. and the late Olga Aleyne "Toots" Reynolds Irvin. He was a 1968 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School. He was a student of Odell High School until Northwest opened, and Odell held a special place in his heart. He was also a graduate of Steed College in Johnson City, Tenn. Don retired from the Mecklenburg County Tax Office where he was a real estate appraiser with 30 years of service in the industry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era. Don enjoyed running, fishing, hunting, playing with his dog, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. His special joy was being an adored grandfather to "Pop's girls." Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 21, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Revs. Charles "Chaz" Blasdell and Alan Buckner. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Saturday, July 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Rebecca "Becky" Morrison Irvin of the home; daughter, Dana I. Hefner and husband, Jason, of Huntersville; two beloved granddaughters, Bennett Grace Hefner and Blythe Rebecca Hefner; brother, Tommy Irvin (LouAnn); sister, Lisa Hendley (Ben) all of Concord; and brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Don was recently preceded in death by his son, Darren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081; or Gilwood Presbyterian Church, 2993 Odell School Rd., Concord, NC 28027.
