Barbee, Helen Louise Beatty

CHARLOTTEHelen Louise Beatty Barbee, 93, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, at home with her family by her side.Helen was born June 21, 1921, in Union County, a daughter of the late John Rufus Beatty and Carrie Porter Beatty. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, George Leonard Barbee; and by 12 brothers and sisters.A service to celebrate the life of Helen will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at Hartsell Funeral Home, 13575 Broadway Ave. in Midland. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Hwy 29 N., Interstate 85 Exit in Kannapolis.Most of her life was spent attending Locust Presbyterian Church, where she served as elder, taught Sunday School and was very involved with the Presbyterian Women. In her last years she lived with her daughter, Betty Graham in Charlotte, where she attended Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Helen was a marvelous woman, noted for her industriousness, integrity and care giving. She was an inspiration to many, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was continually doing for others in the family and the community. She was noted for her wonderful sourdough bread which she sold for many years at Beatty's Fruit Store.Helen was and is loved and adored by her children, Betty Graham and husband, Charles Graham of Charlotte and Olivia Sasser of Atlanta, Ga. She greatly enjoyed and was blessed by six grandchildren, David Hollifield and wife, Jayne of Pineville, Anna Hollifield of Charlotte, Kevin Graham and wife, Nicole of Bronxville, N.Y., Matthew Sasser and wife, Meredith of Atlanta, Jonathan Sasser and wife, Rachel of Evans, Ga., and Jennifer McGinnis and husband, Stephen of Pineville; and nine great-grandchildren.The family wishes to express their appreciation for the tender loving care provided by Tynese Walker.The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215; or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Barbee family.Online condolences may be made at www.hartsellfh.com.
