I was saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Willie Sheelor. I remember serving with him when I was a member of First Baptist Church and what stood out with him was how he stood above the troubles of the church. I personally never heard him say a negative thing about anybody. In the many conversations that he and I shared he was always one who had God at the center of all that I witnessed in him. He once told me that he was praying for me because in his opinion I was one of God's chosen and that everything would work out for my good. The community has lost in my opinion an icon, one who was a member of the Negro Baseball League and one who in fact stood in a league of his own. Sleep on my brother. Rev. & Mrs. John Bankhead
