CONCORD Mr. Howard Morrison "Punch" Whitaker left his earthly home Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015 and is now rejoicing in heaven with family and friends gone on before him. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Harmony United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Thad Brown. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. Howard was born March 8, 1942 in Concord, a beloved son of the late Howard S. "Punch" and Sarah Little Whitaker. He attended Concord High School and had a 10-year career as a deep sea diver and under water Explosive Ordinates Disposal professional with the United States Department of the Navy. After exiting the Navy, he enjoyed a career as an automotive aftermarket representative and in his spare time was either deep sea diving or driving race cars, both of which he loved. He was a faithful member of Harmony United Methodist Church and loved his church family. Howard was a very much loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Howard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Paula Whitaker; daughter, Deby Kilpatrick; son-in-law, Phil Kilpatrick; granddaughter, Jessica Kilpatrick, all of the home; sister, Iris Whitaker; brother, Donald "Punchy" Whitaker; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harmony United Methodist Church, 406 Union Cemetery Rd., Concord, NC 28027 or to Tucker Hospice House, 5005 Hospice Ln., Kannapolis, NC 28081.
