President Donald Trump unveiled TrumpRx, a new government website designed to help Americans buy prescription medicines at significantly lower prices. Standing before a display of TrumpRx.gov, Trump said the program would save families money while improving health nationwide for everyone. The site launched with more than forty medications, including fertility treatments, insulin, and weight loss drugs, highlighted during the presentation. Trump appeared alongside CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and designer Joe Gebbia for the launch. Gebbia demonstrated features showing steep discounts, explaining that users can print coupons or store them in digital wallets for savings. The White House said prices reflect deals with over a dozen drugmakers under a most-favored-nation pricing policy framework. In exchange for discounts to Medicaid and TrumpRx buyers, the administration agreed to drop planned pharmaceutical industry tariffs. The program targets uninsured consumers who often pay full price, while insured Americans usually receive discounts through coverage already today. Officials compared TrumpRx to private discount platforms, casting it as a new tool amid persistent pressure on the cost of living nationwide.
The legislation is the latest in a long effort to rein in insulin prices for a wider population after Congress did so for Medicare beneficiaries in 2022.
