Auburn vs. Baylor odds, preview and picks: Baylor -1.5 (-110 or better)
Baylor lost four of its five starters from last season’s 23-11, third-seeded team that lost to Creighton in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Guard Ja’Kobe Walter, the No. 9-rated player in the class of 2023, is expected to lead Baylor along with 6-foot-8 forward Jalen Bridges.
Baylor’s weakness last season was its defense and that is said to be Drew’s main focus going into this season.
Baylor was 18-16 against the spread last season, while Auburn was 16-18.
Auburn was 21-13 last season and lost 81-64 to top-seeded Houston in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Under coach Bruce Pearl, Auburn has greatly improved its program, winning 143 games the past six seasons, second in the conference behind Tennessee in that time span.
Auburn signed five-star shooting guard Aden Holloway, who should help since the Tigers only shot 31.5% on 3-pointers last season. That ranked 309th in the country.
The game will be played on a neutral court in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (9 p.m. ET, ESPN). Given Baylor’s pedigree, expect the Bears to win this closely contested game and cover the -1.5 spread.
