Volleyball downs Western Carolina for second SoCon win

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team defeated Western Carolina, 3-1, (25-21, 26-24, 24-26, 25-15) on Saturday to improve its win streak to four and notch its second straight win in The Southern Conference (SoCon) in Bodford Arena.

The last time UNCG started off SoCon play 2-0 was in the 2021 season as the Spartans began league action 3-0 that year.

How it happened

Set 1

After a 3-3 start, Allie Sweet served through a seven-point UNCG run, with kills from Kendall Lanclos and Connore' Siler-Nixon. Western Carolina later tied the set at 17, but Lanclos helped UNCG regain the lead before the Spartans closed it, 25-21.

Set 2

Western Carolina opened with three straight points, but UNCG answered to tie the set. After another late tie at 24, a Catamount service error and a Lanclos ace gave the Spartans a 26-24 win.

Set 3

At 6-6, Western Carolina scored six straight to take control. UNCG battled back to tie it at 14, then led 20-16, but the Catamounts rallied to 22-22 and edged out a 26-24 win.

Set 4

With the score tied at 10, UNCG surged ahead with six straight points. Sweet and Siler-Nixon sparked the run, while Sweet sealed the 25-15 set and match with a block.

By the numbers

• Sweet recorded her 31st career double-double and eighth of the season after leading the match with 21 kills and 12 digs.
• Lanclos followed closely behind Sweet with 15 kills on the day.
• Izora Gragg notched her 15th career double-double and third of the season after pacing the match with 37 assists and adding 10 digs.
• Chloe Nussbaum also posted double-digit digs with 10.
• Sweet and Nussbaum led UNCG with two service aces apiece.
• Siler-Nixon led the contest with eight total blocks, while Sweet added six.
