ICYMI: Previews for Cabarrus County high school football teams

CONCORD – Don’t let up.

That’s essentially the unspoken mantra for the 2023 Northwest Cabarrus football team.

CONCORD – If Jason Seidel ever gets tired of the whole football-coaching thing, he’d be an ideal candidate for a job with the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Seidel loves this place, and he swears by it.

CONCORD – When Zach Bevilacqua took over the Central Cabarrus football program in 2020, times were rough for the Vikings.

Times were actually pretty rough for everywhere high school sports team because it was during the masks-for-everyone phase of COVID-19, and it was uncertain North Carolina would even have an athletics calendar.

KANNAPOLIS – The new era of A.L. Brown football has begun.

A man with one of the most beloved last names in the program decorated history – Hardin – is at the controls once again, replacing a man, Mike Newsome, who drew his own share of adulation because he had a habit of kicking that Black and Gold team’s tail with regularity.

CONCORD – Brian Hinson is a girl dad.

MOUNT PLEASANT – It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Mount Pleasant football team is focusing on taking a monumental step forward this season – and maybe two – after literally coming inches away from a championship in 2022.

In one of the year’s best games last season, that’s just how agonizingly close things were when Mount Pleasant’s Austin Kee hauled in a pass from rookie quarterback Colin Black in the waning moments to fall short, 21-14, against Jay M. Robinson in the Yadkin Valley 1A/2A Conference title game.

CONCORD – Those inexperienced Concord Spiders from a year ago are maturing.
