Summer under the Stars: John Wayne
TCM, beginning at 6 a.m.
John Wayne, the towering Western and war film star whose screen persona became one of the most recognizable in movie history, headlines today's Summer Under the Stars lineup. The tribute includes Stagecoach (1939), the John Ford Western that helped make Wayne a major star; She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), another Ford collaboration with Wayne as cavalry officer Nathan Brittles; and 3 Godfathers (pictured), a 1948 Western retelling of a Christmas story set in the desert. Interspersed in the lineup are plenty of wartime and adventure titles showcasing the range of Wayne's action-hero appeal across several decades.

'Thin Man' Movie Marathon
MOVIES!, beginning at 1:15 p.m. â– Catch a Classic
Get ready for a playful six-film Thin Man marathon, beginning with the witty original, The Thin Man (1934), and continuing through After the Thin Man (1936), Another Thin Man (1939), Shadow of the Thin Man (1941), The Thin Man Goes Home (1945) and Song of the Thin Man (1947) — all starring the incomparable William Powell as Nick Charles, with Myrna Loy as his equally irresistible wife, Nora. Based on Dashiell Hammett's novel, the series became a sensation thanks to Powell and Loy's lightning-fast banter, sophisticated chemistry, champagne-fueled sleuthing and their ever-present wire-haired terrier Asta. Director W.S. Van Dyke encouraged improvisation on the first film, and MGM executives who initially questioned the casting were quickly won over; even the climactic dinner scene became legendary when repeated takes left the oysters under the hot studio lights until they literally began to putrefy, as remembered by Loy. The franchise's enduring appeal comes from the simplicity of the mysteries, which were funny, stylish, romantic movies built around one of Hollywood's most beloved screen partnerships.

Svengoolie introduces audiences to 1935's delightfully twisted slice of classic horror The Raven, which brings together two of the genre's greatest icons, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, in a creepy tale inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. Lugosi plays a brilliant but obsessed surgeon whose fascination with Poe — and a beautiful young woman (Irene Ware) — spirals into madness, while Karloff delivers a memorable performance as a fugitive who becomes the victim of the doctor's horrifying experiments.
The run for a Million

Taylor Sheridan, creator of the Yellowstone TV franchise, presents this Western performance horse sports event in Las Vegas. The two-hour special takes viewers inside the Million Dollar Competition, where 16 of the world's leading reining riders guide their horses through a demanding pattern of circles, spins and sliding stops in pursuit of the event's championship and a share of the $1 million purse.

Summer Under the Stars: Katharine Hepburn
TCM, beginning at 6 a.m.
Katharine Hepburn, the fiercely independent star whose career stretched from early 1930s Hollywood to late-career Oscar triumphs, is celebrated with a full day of TCM classics. The lineup opens with Little Women (1933), with Hepburn as Jo March, and concludes with Morning Glory (1933), the backstage drama that brought her first Academy Award, and Song of Love (1947). The day also features Stage Door (1937); Bringing Up Baby (1938), with Hepburn and Cary Grant in one of screwball comedy's most beloved pairings; and The Philadelphia Story (pictured), the 1940 witty romantic comedy that helped restore Hepburn's box office standing after a string of flops.
