Whataburger to open near Concord Mills today
Whataburger is continuing its expansion across the Charlotte region with the opening of a new restaurant on Mallard Creek Road at the corner of Carolina Lilly. It is just over the Mecklenburg County line near Concord Mills Mall.
The Texas-based burger chain will open its latest Charlotte location Thursday at 13721 Mallard Creek Road. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and will include local officials, business leaders and company representatives.
This Whataburger is unrelated to the What-A-Burgers, which operate in Concord and Kannapolis.
Drive-thru only to start
The restaurant will initially operate as a drive-thru-only location while employees complete final preparations for dine-in service. During the grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive a free Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, and the company will distribute Whataburger promotional merchandise.
The new restaurant is expected to employ about 85 workers, whom the company refers to as "Family Members." Company officials said the opening reflects Whataburger's continued investment in North Carolina as it expands across the Southeast.
Guests will be able to order signature menu items, including the No. 1 Whataburger, fries, Whatafreshers and handspun shakes. Customers also can place orders through the Whataburger mobile app, which offers rewards and promotional offers.
The restaurant's initial hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
Who runs the place?
Operating Partner Luis Botello is expected to oversee the new location. He will be joined at the grand opening by Growth Market Leader Preston Hughes, Field Marketing Managers Hassy Braggs and Laurin Yoder James, along with other company representatives and community partners.
The Mallard Creek Road restaurant is the latest addition to Whataburger's growing presence in the Charlotte area as the chain continues to expand throughout the Carolinas and the broader Southeast.
