Eddy Fleming
July 16, 1942 - July 25, 2026
Richard Eddington "Eddy" Fleming, 84, formerly of Landis, NC, passed away on July 25, 2026. He was the son of the late Ben and Gladys Fleming, also formerly of Landis. The family belonged to the St. John's Reformed Church in Kannapolis for many years.
Born July 16, 1942, in Concord, NC, Mr. Fleming graduated from Landis High School, Class of 1960, and from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Class of 1964. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for his service with the Navy Recruiting Command in Washington, DC. He retired from Burlington Industries, Inc. in 2003 after twentyseven years of service in their Corporate Information Systems Department in Greensboro, NC.
He was an avid reader and had amassed a collection of books by favorite authors. He loved watching sports, especially tennis grand slams, and was a loyal Tarheel fan. He enjoyed making and sending cards to friends, family and former colleagues, often including old photographs of the recipients to their great delight.
Mr. Fleming is survived by daughters Erin Taylor and her husband Nate and their two children, Viv and Landis of Charlotte, NC, and Jennifer Baker and her husband Bill and their two sons Liam and Rhys, with whom he resided in Simpsonville, SC. Other survivors include his sister, Bonita MacLeod, and her husband, John of Wake Forest, NC, and their adult children.
At Mr. Fleming's request there will be no formal service. His ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank countless friends for their support, and Interim Hospice and Elaine Swanson for their care during his last days. He was able to pass peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Memorials may be sent to St. John's Reformed Church, 901 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
