The grant will fund removing a dividing wall to combine two warehouse spaces into one continuous facility, installing new shelving and packing stations, and improving lighting and workflow.
Mooresville-based The Kindness Closet has been selected to receive a $100,000 grant as part of Lowe's Community Impact program, helping to check off a bucket list renovation project that will strengthen the fight against hygiene poverty across Iredell County and the greater Charlotte region.
The Kindness Closet is a Mooresville-based nonprofit hygiene bank — the only organization of its kind in North Carolina — providing essential hygiene products free of charge to children, families, seniors and individuals in need. Founded in 2018, The Kindness Closet addresses hygiene poverty by filling the gap left by public assistance programs, which cover food and shelter but not basic necessities like soap, deodorant, diapers or period products. Through partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, food pantries, shelters and senior agencies across Iredell County and statewide, the organization distributed more than 500,000 hygiene products in 2025. Its Red Cart Project has placed period product dispensers directly in bathrooms in 34 middle and high schools across Iredell and Alexander counties, helping ensure that every student has access to the dignity, health and confidence that come with basic hygiene.
