B.J. Boyce of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Boyce notched his first collegiate win at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Monday behind a five-under-par (211) scorecard. The Fort Bragg, North Carolina, native recorded rounds of 71-76-64, while carding two eagles and 10 birdies across the three-day event.
His eight-under-par (64) round three score was one stroke off the Blessings Collegiate Invitational low round individual score set by Algot Kleen from LSU in 2024, a nine-under-par (63), also in round three.
The Spartans finished runner-up at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational with a 16-over-par (880) after posting the best score of round three with a seven-under-par (281).
"This week was a team effort from all of us," said Boyce. "We all had this tournament marked on our calendar since we played last year. So, for us to all have a strong showing and have a good team finish is big for the team. This is a big boost of confidence to all of the guys from top to bottom and we all have some momentum going into the last event of the fall."
The SoCon nod is Boyce's second of his career and second for the Spartans this season after he also earned the feat on Sept. 16, finishing in second place at UNCG's own Bryan National Collegiate.
UNCG will send individuals to the Elon Phoenix Invitational hosted by in-state foe Elon at Alamance Country Club from Oct. 12-13.
