The Iredell County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, June 16, to address major capital designs, public health contracts, community recognitions, and economic expansion initiatives.
Major highlights and actions
- Hall of Justice project advances: The board authorized a $5,351,593 contract with Mosley Architects for comprehensive design services to expand and renovate the Iredell County Hall of Justice. This contract operates on an accelerated 12-month design window to conclude by August 2027, with construction bidding and groundbreaking expected in the third quarter of 2027.
- Inmate medical services agreement: Sheriff Darren Campbell presented a request to award a three-year contract to IMS Correctional for comprehensive inmate medical services across detention facilities. Selected via a structured RFP process, IMS was chosen to maximize taxpayer value. To offset rising baseline healthcare costs for fiscal year 2027, unspent funds from other Sheriff's Office divisions will be allowed to roll into the detention center’s medical allocations.
- Employee compensation and classification study: Human Resources introduced Evergreen Solutions LLC, selected from 16 competitive respondents to assess workplace pay plans and employment classification structures. Project Manager Stacy Winchell and Consultant Ally explained their data-focused methodology, which includes a free year of post-implementation technical support. The board explicitly requested a focus on "seasoned," highly tenured workers to resolve compression challenges to ensure long-term personnel don’t feel left behind by past entry-wage updates. Evergreen will collaborate on-site with administration, directors, and staff to account for longevity, certifications, and experience.
- $25 million economic expansion via "Project Go Fast": Following a public hearing with no citizen opposition, commissioners approved an economic development incentive package for Project Go Fast. The project maps out a $25 million corporate investment by December 31, 2027, retaining existing positions and creating 10 new jobs with salaries exceeding the county average of $64,895. The approved grant caps at $400,652 over five years, reimbursing 75% on real property taxes and 50% on machinery and equipment.
