CONCORD- CBD is a hot topic right now and products are popping up on the shelves of stores across the country. From peanut butter to cocktails, it seems like CBD is being added to everything because of the positive impacts proponents say it has on pain and anxiety.
Concord is not immune to this trend. CBD products can be found in plenty of stores, but a new store in downtown wants to be your one-stop-shop for all CBD needs.
Your CBD Store— located at 9 Union Street North #110— opened a couple of weeks ago and is part of a national franchise. The franchise has stores in 27 states across the country, with seven of those in North Carolina.
The store in Concord is owned by a family from Morganton. Deborah Ann Simons, her husband Shaun Simons and daughter Megan Wilson work at the store together and also opened a Your CBD Store in Morganton a few months ago.
Deborah Simons said the Morganton store has seen great success and she wanted to bring that to a larger market by expanding to Concord.
“When I originally opened the first store, I worked at the hospital for 20 years. I was a medical technologist in the hospital and a lab manager of two facilities for five years,” Deborah said. “After I got out of that, I wanted to do something to still help individuals and give them a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals, especially with the opioid crisis.”
Since the Morganton store opened, Deborah Simons said they have people of all ages coming in for products to help with anxiety, PTSD, insomnia and pain. She also said some local doctors have sent their older patients to the store to try out products that will provide them some relief.
“It’s very common for us to be sitting in the other store and people come in and say ‘I just left my doctor’s office and they told me to come in,’” Shaun Simons said. “Some of them have tried everything and they can’t find something that seems to work. They are looking for something that doesn’t have a 15-second commercial with a 30-second list of possible side effects.”
What is cannabidoil?
According to officials with Your CBD Store, cannabidoil— better known as CBD— is a compound or cannabinoid found in the industrial hemp and is responsible for many of the plants known medicinal benefits.
While most people associated cannabis with delivering in the therapeutic benefits of commonly associated with medicinal marijuana, people can get many of the same benefits from CBD without the psychoactive effects of THC—and a doctor’s recommendation is not needed to purchase it.
What can CBD do?
Information from Your CBD store says that it offers many of the same benefits of THC, without the often unwanted psychoactive effects.
Some of its potential benefits include reducing inflammation, pain killing effects, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant properties. People use CBD to alleviate conditions ranging from chronic pain to intractable epilepsy.
Deciding to get involved
Deborah Simons said her daughter, Wilson, is the reason she got involved with and knows so much about CBD. Wilson has psoriatic arthritis and got tired of trying different medications that didn’t help her with pain.
Wilson said she is part of an arthritis group on Facebook and had seen a lot of posts about people trying CBD and positive feedback.
“I’ve been on multiple medications, nothing’s worked. Either they didn’t work or they made me sick,” Wilson said. “So I figured why not? It can’t hurt me. So I’ve been using it for a little over a year now. It’s made a huge difference.”
Shaun Simons has also seen improvements in his sister, who was having up to 10 seizures a week. He said now that she has been using CBD she only has one or two seizures a week.
After discovering CBD benefits, the family started shopping for franchises and decided on Your CBD Store because they said it offers high-quality products.
“We looked at a couple of different brands and manufacturers and ended up with this franchise store because of the transparency of the company and the product,” Shaun Simons said. “We actually have an on-staff PHD in chemistry where they formulate all the products, so we know we are getting what it says on the bottle.”
Your CBD Store products
Hemp oil products that can be purchased at Your CBD Store include liquid tinctures, water soluble oil, gummies, soft gel caps, e-liquids for vaping, topical creams and CBD oil for pets.
And since the store is set up like a boutique, the owners can meet with you and talk about what might help any ailments.
“We’ve got a lounge area where people can come in, relax, ask questions. We can kind of walk them through some product options and try to help them find something, just from other people’s results, might help them,” Deborah Simons said. “We can help guide them because dosages vary from person to person.”
She hopes the store will help the people of Concord with mental health, pain management and general health.
“It’s a good alternative to taking prescription drugs. It’s so bad now, everybody is getting addicted to opioids,” she said. “It’s a natural alternative.”
