While stationed at Nakhon Phanom RTAFB Thailand in October 1969 – September 1970 we referred to our base as the Air Force Museum because of the vintage of air planes we used in our mission. We had no jets per se but aircraft that were introduced to the inventory during World War II. This base was located in the jungles not far from the Mekong River separating Thailand from Laos. We were said to be closer to Hanoi, the capital of North Vietnam, than most our US bases in South Vietnam. Our base was an important tactical location in the war effort.
