When I was growing up there were certain guys in our school who were bullies just as there are today. Those who did not want to be harassed tried to stay away from these misdirected young hoodlums. One day as I was coming home alone from playing baseball one of the bullies saw me and as soon as I saw him charging towards me I started to run as usual. I did not get very far when I realized I had a baseball bat in my hand. At that very moment I remembered what my daddy had said about those who tried to pick on you. He said, “Find an equalizer.” He meant to find a stick or something to help defend yourself. Well, I did not have to look, I had it in my hand. I stopped immediately and said, “Come any closer and I will hit you with this bat.” Thank the Lord he did not move near me and I never had any more trouble from the guy. The truth is I do not know if I would have hit him or not, but my problem was resolved.
When needed God is our equalizer
